Women's Soccer Defeats Medaille in Overtime

Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team won their second consecutive conference game with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against Medaille College on Saturday afternoon.

The Mounties put high pressure on the visitors early. Tracey Ecklund pushed a ball past a Medaille defender on the right wing and hit the top of the crossbar in the opening minutes. The Mounties finally found the net in the 27th minute as Kristin James knocked in an Olivia Woodley cross to make it 1-0. Medaille responded, however, as Candis Kapuscinski headed in a cross in the 38th minute. The game went into halftime tied.

The Mount had a number of chances to take the lead in the second half. Their best chance came courtesy of Tess Drenning with ten minutes to play in regulation. Drenning cut past her defender on the right wing and ripped a shot off the crossbar from range. The two sides remained deadlocked and went into overtime.

Eight minutes into the first overtime period, Woodley sped past two Medaille defenders and struck a shot in the upper left corner to give Mount Aloysius the win. The goal was Woodley's conference-leading 14th of the year.

The Mountie defense led by Elizabeth Josephson, Shelby Anderson, Jorden Eutsey and Megan Parker held Medaille to just four shots. Goalkeeper Zara Apakoh made two saves to earn the victory in net.

The Mounties have now won four of their past five games to improve their overall record to 6-6.

Mount Aloysius will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to crosstown rival Penn State-Altoona for an 8 p.m. conference matchup.
