Women's Soccer Ties Lions

Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Penn State Altoona on Tuesday afternoon in AMCC play.

The visiting Lions outshot the Mounties 6-3 in the opening half and found the game's opening goal off of a corner kick. Altoona's Courtney Krempasky lofted a corner that found the back of the net on the far side to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Mounties moved center back Elizabeth Josephson to forward and it immediately paid dividends. Josephson created a couple of chances to begin the half, and in the 59th minute she swiped the ball off of an Altoona defender and finished on the breakaway to tie things up at 1-1. The goal was her third of the season and 16th of her career.

The trio of Josephson, Olivia Hannan and Mary Durle continued to create chances, as did the Lions in a back-and-forth affair in the second half. The game went into overtime tied 1-1.

After a scoreless overtime period, the Mounties appeared to have the game winner, but it was taken back due to an offsides call. In the closing moments of the game, Mount keeper Zara Apakoh was forced to make a diving save. Mackenzie Horne then saved a potential game winner by clearing the ball out of the area as the time ran off the clock.

Apakoh made nine saves in net for the Mounties, while Mackenzie Strubhar registed four saves for Altoona.

Tuesday's match was the final game for Horne (two-year captain who made 51 career starts on defense) and Josephson (three-year captain who started in all 68 games in her four-year career).
