Softball Wins Four in a Row to End Spring Trip

Myrtle Beach, SC - After dropping the first four games of their spring trip, the Mount Aloysius softball team responded with four wins in a row as they combined for 34 runs in victories over Delaware Valley, Ursinus, SUNYIT and Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The Mounties hot play began in their fifth game of the trip in a 9-3 victory over Delaware Valley. The Mounties jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings highlighted by a three-run homerun courtesy of Danielle Hart. The Mount extended their lead in the fifth inning with an RBI double from Alyssa Wills and an RBI single from Bridgit Yothers. Heather Picard recorded her first collegiate win as she threw five innings while allowing just one earned run.

Following an 8-0 shutout of Ursinus and an 8-3 win over SUNYIT, the Mounties capped their trip with a 9-0 shutout of Pennsylvania College of Technology. Kelsey Ickes was dominant in throwing a no-hitter and striking out 12 in five innings. Offensively, Alexandria Teeter was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI's.

During the trip, Teeter went 9-for-17 for a .529 average while Yothers hit .455 with a team leading seven RBI's. McKenzie Moore slugged two home runs during the trip, and Chelsea Engeholm (eight hits) and Hayley McGowan (seven hits) both had strong showings.

On the mound, Ickes was dominant in four appearances as she recorded two complete games and a 2.23 ERA. In 22 innings on the rubber, she allowed just 15 hits. Picard was also strong with a 2.25 ERA as the two pitchers combined for 50 strikeouts.

The Mounties return to action tomorrow with a trip to Geneva College for a doubleheader.
