Huntington, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team dropped an 8-6 decision in game one before responding with an 8-0 victory in game two against host Juniata on Saturday afternoon.
In a high-scoring affair in game one, Juniata held a 7-2 lead after the top of the fifth before the Mounties responded as Danielle Hart and Jalisa Westover registered RBIs in the bottom of the inning. Down 8-4 in the sixth, Kiersten Lorditch ripped an RBI double and Lindsy Sammarco added an RBI single to cut the deficit to two. The Mounties loaded the bases in their final at-bat in the seventh, but Bridgit Yothers grounded into a fielder's choice and Emilee Gearhart flew out to end the game.
Sammarco and Lorditch each went 2-for-3 in the first game to lead the Mounties offensively.
In game two, The Mounties ended the game via mercy rule in the fifth after scoring all eight of their runs in their first two at-bats.
Kelsey Ickes threw a one-hit shutout on the rubber, and Westover went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs.
Hayley McGowan added two RBI's on a single in the second inning that made it 6-0.
The Mounties return to action on Tuesday with a trip to West Liberty University for another non-conference doubleheader.
