Mounties Fall to Altoona

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Cresson, PA - Despite a furious comeback attempt in game two, the Mount Aloysius softball team fell to Penn State Altoona 9-8 in extra innings after dropping game one by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon in their AMCC opener.

Down 7-3 heading into their final at-bat, the Mounties loaded the bases with no outs. McKenzie Moore then came up big with a double that brought in three runs. After a double play put a runner on third with two outs, Emilee Gearhart singled in Moore to tie the game and force extra innings. However, Altoona responded with two runs in the top of the eighth, and the Mounties only managed a sacrifice fly from Jalisa Westover in the bottom of the inning.

In game one, the Mounties fell into a 5-0 hole, but responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of RBI doubles from Hayley McGowan and Alexandria Teeter. Mount Aloysius wouldn't reach the scoreboard again in their final three at-bats as Altoona took the victory.

In game one, Heather Picard threw a complete game, allowing eight hits while striking out four. Kelsey Ickes got the nod in game two before being relieved by Bridgit Yothers.

The Mounties return to action on Thursday with a non-conference matchup against Saint Vincent.
