Box Score 2 Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team defeated Pitt-Greensburg by scores of 7-2 and 10-8 in an AMCC doubleheader on Thursday afternoon on their home field.
In game one, the Mounties fell into a 1-0 hole before scoring two runs in the third inning courtesy of an RBI double from
Chelsea Engeholm and RBI single from Jalisa Westover. After Greensburg tied things up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, Mount Aloysius scored five runs over its next two at-bats to take control. Providing the big hits were Engeholm (single in the fifth that scored two) and Westover (RBI single in the fourth) once again.
Heather Picard threw three innings of scoreless relief to register the victory.
Kelsey Ickes had started on the rubber, as she allowed two hits and two earned runs pver four innings while striking out seven.
In game two, the two teams combined for 24 hits as the Mounties ended up winning in exciting fashion on a walkoff home run from Westover in extra innings.
The Mounties had initially established a 7-3 lead after four innings of play before Greensburg fought back with three runs in the top of the fifth. A
Hayley McGowan RBI single moved the Mountie lead to 8-6 before Greensburg responded with two runs in their final at-bat to send the game into extras. After Bridgit Yothers held Greensburg scoreless in the top of the eighth, Westover displayed just why she was voted AMCC Preseason Player of the Year with a one out, two-run home run.
Westover finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored in game two, while Engeholm (two runs, three RBIs), Lindsy Sammarco (two hits, two RBIs)
Alexandria Teeter (two RBIs) and Danielle Hart (two hits, two runs) also contributed offensively.
The Mounties improve to 17-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play with the victories.
