Box Score 2 Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team defeated La Roche by a score of 12-4 in game one before falling 8-7 on a walkoff hit in game two while earning a split in an AMCC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
In game one, the Mounties scored nine runs in the first inning to seize control. Jalisa Westover started things off with an RBI single, and
Kaleigh Roop and Lindsy Sammarco each added RBI singles that brought in two runs in the inning. In the second inning, Westover recorded her third hit of the game with a double that cleared the bases to make the score 12-0.
La Roche fought back with two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings, but the Mounties Heather Picard shut the Redhawks down in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule.
Westover went 3-for-4 in game one with four RBI's. Sammarco scored three runs and added two RBI's, and
Alexandria Teeter and Roop each registered two RBI's.
Kelsey Ickes got the win for the Mounties, as she pitched 3.1 innings and allowed three earned runs before Picard closed out the game.
In game two, the score was deadlocked at 2-2 until the Mounties scored three runs in the top of the fifth. The Mounties added two runs in their at-bat in the seventh to take a commanding 7-3 advantage. However, the Redhawks scored five runs on six hits in their final chance at the plate to record the win. With runners on second and third and two outs, La Roche registered a walkoff single.
Picard threw five innings and allowed two earned runs before Ickes came in and was handed the loss. Offensively, Sammarco notched two hits and two more runs, and Westover scored two runs. Roop added two RBI's.
The Mounties move to 20-10 on the season and 10-5 in conference play.
