Box Score 2 Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius softball team continued its winning ways with 9-0 and 10-2 victories over Medaille in their final AMCC regular season contests on Sunday afternoon. Both victories came via the mercy rule.
In game one, Lindsy Sammarco got Mount Aloysius on the board with a run off of a throwing error. The Mounties added three runs in the second highlighted by a single from
Brandie Mott that brought in two runs. In the fifth inning, Jalisa Westover provided the power with a two-run homer, her second home run of the season. Sammarco capped the scoring with a triple in the sixth that drove in three runs.
Kelsey Ickes earned the victory with a one-hit complete game. Ickes struck out five Medaille hitters.
In game two, Medaille jumped out to a 2-0 advantage before Mount Aloysius responded with five runs in the third inning. Sammarco recorded two RBIs on a single, and
Hayley McGowan brought in two more with a double before
Alexandria Teeter notched an RBI single.
The Mounties continued to put on the pressure with three runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth.
Sammarco went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in game two as she finished the day with six RBIs and four runs. Westover and
Chelsea Engeholm both had two hits in game two. On the rubber, Heather Picard recorded the win.
The Mounties have now won nine out of their last 10 game and have advanced to the AMCC playoffs, where they will open up with La Roche at 10 am on Friday at Penn-State Behrend, the top seed in the tournament.
