Softball Knocks off D'Youville

St. Bonaventure, NY - The Mount Aloysius pitching duo of Kelsey Ickes and Heather Picard allowed just three hits in two games as the Mountie softball team defeated D'Youville 3-0 and 8-0 on the campus of St. Bonaventure University on Sunday afternoon in AMCC competition.

In game one, Ickes threw a complete game in a one-hit performance while striking out 12. The Mounties broke the scoreless tie in the fourth as Hayley McGowan notched a single to bring in Lindsy Sammarco. In the top of the sixth, the Mounties got two insurance runs as McGowan registered another RBI single and Alexandria Teeter ripped a double to bring in Jalisa Westover and make it a 3-0 ballgame. Ickes was one out away from a no-hitter before D'Youville's Ashley Cohan singled in the bottom of the seventh.

In game two, Picard was also dominant while allowing two hits and striking out seven as the Mount ended the game in five innings via the mercy rule. Mount Aloysius scored seven runs in the top of the first inning capped by a Chelsea Engeholm RBI double to seize control. Westover went 2-for-3 in game two, while Bridgit Yothers and Kiersten Lorditch each had two RBI's.

The Mounties improve to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in AMCC play. They return to conference play on Wednesday with a trip to Franciscan.
