Box Score 2 Steubenville, OH - The Mount Aloysius softball team recorded 29 hits and 29 runs in a two-game sweep of host Franciscan, as the Mounties won by scores of 10-1 and 19-1 in an AMCC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
In game one, Lindsy Sammarco and
Hayley McGowan each registered three hits to lead the Mount offensively.
Chelsea Engeholm had three RBI's, and McGowan and Taylor Mansfield each had home runs in the five-inning victory. On the mound,
Kelsey Ickes continued her dominant pitching as she allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out seven.
The Mountie offense continued to produce in game two as the visitors were up 14-0 after three innings of play. In a well-balanced team effort, seven different Mounties recorded at least two hits, and Engeholm,
Kaleigh Roop, Bridgit Yothers and Danielle Hart all produced three RBI's. In addition, Sammarco, Roop, Kiersten Lorditch and
Brandie Mott all scored three runs. Roop and Yothers provided the early power as both players cracked two-run homers in the bottom of the first inning. On the rubber, Heather Picard matched Ickes' stat line with five innings pitched while allowing three hits and a run. She also struck out seven.
Mount Aloysius scored in all ten of its at-bats in the doubleheader.
The Mounties return to action tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader at home against Geneva.
