Softball Wins 3 of 4, One Win from AMCC Championship Game

Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team has won three of their four AMCC championship round games, and with a 9-5 victory over D'Youville late Saturday afternoon the Mounties advance to face Pitt-Bradford on Sunday morning.

The winner will of the Mount Aloysius-Bradford contest with take on Penn State Altoona in the championship contest Sunday afternoon. If the Mounties get by Bradford, they will have to defeat Altoona twice as the Lions currently have zero losses in the double elimination tournament.

Mount Aloysius opened up with a 10-2 victory over La Roche on Friday morning. Heather Picard got the victory in the five-inning contest that ended via the mercy rule. Offensively, Chelsea Engeholm and Brandie Mott paced the Mounties with two hits and two RBIs apiece.

In their second game, the Mounties went up 4-3 on Penn State Altoona before the Lions dropped nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.

On Saturday, Mount Aloysius responded with back-to-back, do-or-die wins over D'Youville and La Roche by scores of 6-5 and 9-5. In the victory over D'Youville, Kelsey Ickes registered the win while Lindsy Sammarco (three hits), Hayley McGowan (three RBI's) and Kiersten Lorditch (pinch-hit three run homer in the sixth) led the Mount offensively. The score was tied 3-3 when Lorditch stepped up with the biggest hit of the season thus far, a home run to left field that brought in Danielle Hart and Bridgit Yothers.

Following the win, the Mounties edged La Roche for the second time in two days as Picard picked up the victory. Mount Aloysius scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead, and held on in the final inning as Yothers picked up the final out with a runner on. McGowan, Yothers and Lorditch each recorded two RBI's in the win.

The Mounties will face Pitt-Bradford at 9 am Sunday morning.
