Women's Soccer Drops AMCC Opener

Box Score
Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end in their AMCC opener on Saturday afternoon, as the visiting Mounties fell to host D'Youville by a score of 2-0.

The Mounties came out slow from the start, but keeper Zara Apakoh was able to keep the game 0-0 until the 34th minute when D'Youville's Emily Carias got behind the defense and scored on a breakaway. With some strong defensive play from Mackenzie Horne and Elizabeth Josephson, Mount Aloysius kept it at a 1-0 deficit heading into the half.

The Mounties started putting the pressure on in the second period of play, as Mount Aloysius recorded four shots on goal during the period. Despite a few chances, Mount Aloysius went down 2-0 in the 73rd minute of play off of a counterattack.

The Mounties kept pressing and freshman Mary Durle hit the crossbar with 10 minutes to go on a shot from 25 yards out. With just over a minute left on the clock, Olivia Hannan drew a foul from outside the box. Josephson's ensuing free kick went just wide of the near post.

Apakoh made a season-high 13 saves in net for Mount Aloysius.

Mount Aloysius drops to 7-2 on the season and returns to action on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. game at Franciscan.
