Women's Bowling Wins AMCC Quad Match

Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's bowling team had their most successful weekend in the fledgling program's history. The Mounties women bowlers—only in their second year—won an AMCC Quad Match over the weekend held at the Holiday Bowl in Altoona. Participating opponents in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matchup included Medaille College, Pitt-Bradford and Penn State-Altoona. The quad match victory is the first for the Mount Aloysius women's bowling program under the direction of Head Coach Andy Clouse.

The Mounties opened up play on Saturday by going 3-0 as they defeated Medaille 768-699, Pitt-Bradford 713-672 and Penn State-Altoona 829-652.

"The team really set the tone winning all three in day one of the tournament. They worked extremely hard during the winter break and came in ready to bowl. The preparation the week leading up to the tournament really seemed to set us up in the right direction," Clouse said.

Katie Gales paced the Mounties as she bowled for a 188.33 average and bowled the team's top individual round with a 207 in game one. Jill Vietmeier averaged a 171 and Gabriel Sabo was next in line with a 156.67 average in the three games.

The Mounties returned to the lanes on Sunday and defeated Pitt-Bradford and Penn State-Altoona. In Baker-format play, Mount Aloysius registered team scores of 855, 791 and 960 for an 868.67 team average. Although the team suffered its lone defeat to Medaille, the Mounties still captured first place for the weekend with a 5-1 overall record. Medaille finished 4-2 overall to finish in second place.

"During day two we faced some adversity as we lost one of our top bowlers for the day. The rest of girls rallied and made some critical shots when it counted," Clouse said. "It really goes to show the depth of our team and that we are able to accomplish big things. I'm really proud of this group even though we have a lot of work ahead of us."

Mount Aloysius will return to the lanes on the January 23rd weekend at the Kutztown Invitational. They will participate in the St. Francis Invitational on January 30th and February 1st before the AMCC Championships take place on February 7th and 8th in Altoona.
