Box Score Hamburg, NY - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team got back on the winning track with a 3-2 victory over Hilbert College in AMCC action on Saturday afternoon.
Amanda Brancato scored two goals for the Mounties, including the game-winning goal in the 65th minute of play.
Hilbert got on the board right away with a goal less than two minutes into the game, but the Mounties responded in the 17th minute as
Jordan Gebhart scored off of a through ball from
Olivia Woodley to tie things up at 1-1. The Mounties would take the lead for the first time in the 29th minute as Brancato scored her first goal. The freshman got behind the defense and after the Hilbert keeper came off her line and broke up the initial play, Brancato regained the ball and sent it in to an empty net.
The Hawks responded less than four minutes later with a goal off of a rebound, and the two sides went into halftime tied 2-2.
The Mounties had a number of chances to begin the second half, but wouldn't find the net for 20 minutes when Brancato took a pass from Woodley and struck in her second goal of the contest. The Mountie backline and keeper
Zara Apakoh stayed strong to record the victory.
Woodley took nine shots to lead the Mounties offensively, while Brancato recorded four shots for the game. Apakoh made eight saves to improve to 5-4 overall for the season.
Mount Aloysius improves to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Mounties host Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
