Myrtle Beach, SC - The Mount Aloysius softball team recorded an overall record of 5-5 on their Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach last week.

The Mounties began their trip with a tough 3-2 defeat to Ursinus College. The Mounties led 2-1 after five innings, but couldn't hold on as Ursinus hit a two-run double in the sixth inning before Mount Aloysius was retired in order in their final at-bat. Kelsey Ickes was handed the loss despite allowing just two earned runs and striking out eight in six innings. Offensively, Hayley McGowan had two hits and an RBI while Alexandria Teeter hit an RBI single.

Mount Aloysius responded to the opening defeat with a 14-8 victory over Delaware Valley. Natalie Karpinsky, Chelsea Engeholm and Teeter had two hits apiece, while Taylor Swatsworth was the leader offensively with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate and five RBI's. Sam Crilley earned the victory while going four innings and Ickes notched the save with three innings pitched in relief. The Mounties scored five runs in the top of the sixth to increase the lead from 8-7 to 13-7 on their way to the win.

After a 3-2 win over Penn College and a 5-4 defeat to Penn State Harrisburg, the Mounties improved to 3-2 overall with a 4-1 victory over Iowa Wesleyan. Ickes tossed a complete game and allowed one earned run while striking out 11 hitters. Engeholm went 3-for-3, while Teeter had two RBI singles to help Mount Aloysius notch the win.

The Mounties dropped two decisions by scores of 7-1 to SUNYIT and 6-0 to Dickinson College before getting their bats going in two victories. Mount Aloysius defeated St. Joseph Long Island 9-3 and started their final day of competition with a convincing 13-4 win against SUNY Old Westbury.

Heading into their final game, Mount Aloysius looked to finish the trip with a winning record overall. However, the Mounties lost 9-5 to the William Peace Pacers. Six different Mounties registered hits in the losing effort: Teeter, Swatsworth, Engeholm, Kaleigh Roop, Tiffany Helgran and Sarah Forbes. Roop ripped a double that brought in two runs, and Swatsworth and Teeter both notched RBI singles in the Mount's final at-bat on their trip.
