Box Score 2 Waynesburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team defeated Waynesburg University 2-0 in game one before dropping game two by a score of 3-1 in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Kelsey Ickes was dominant on the rubber in game one as she threw a complete-game shutout while allowing just five hits. Ickes also struck out 12, including two of the final three batters of the ballgame to seal the victory for the Mounties.
Mount Aloysius scored their first run of the game in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Alexandria Teeter drew a walk to score
Kaleigh Roop to provide a 1-0 advantage. The Mounties scored their second run of the game in the top of the fifth.
Chelsea Engeholm ripped a triple with one out, and
Taylor Swatsworth brought her home on an RBI groundout.
In game two, the Mounties were edged in another low-scoring affair despite a strong pitching performance from
Sam Crilley. Crilley also tossed a complete game while allowing five hits and just one earned run. Though the Mounties registered nine hits, they only managed one run in the second inning off of a
Brittany Burris double that drove in Roop. Waynesburg scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on their way to the win. In their final at-bat, the Mounties put two runners on base with one out, but a fielder's choice and flyout ended the ballgame.
Teeter went 3-for-4 at the plate in game two, while Roop and
Brandie Mott each went 2-for-3.
Mount Aloysius now stands at 6-6 overall on the season and will return to action on Monday with a trip to Geneva for a doubleheader.
