Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team picked up a non-conference victory on Monday afternoon as the Mounties defeated Bethany College by a final of 5-4 at the Altoona Summit Athletic Club.
The Mounties got off to a fast start as they won the first two doubles matches.
Matt Hample and
Justin Fleegle won 8-6 at #1 doubles, and
Nick Centar and
Kevin Ouellette were victorious at #2 doubles by a final of 8-3.
Jim Smith and
Aubrey Brown then lost a tightly contested #3 doubles match by an 8-5 final.
Mount Aloysius continued to roll in singles play with victories at #1, #2 and #3 singles to capture the team win. Hample won 6-4, 7-5 at #1 singles, then Fleegle stepped up with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #2 singles. Centar then clinched the match with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at #3 singles before Bethany won the final three individual matches.
Mount Aloysius improves to 3-2 overall on the season and will return to action next Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. match against Penn State Altoona.
