Box Score 2 Cresson, PA - In a tale of two games, the Mount Aloysius softball team defeated visiting Juniata College by a score of 13-1 before falling 12-2 in game two. Both games were decided in five innings via the mercy rule.
In game one,
Kelsey Ickes had a five-inning, two-hit performance as she allowed just one unearned run. Ickes struck out eight hitters as she registered her 8th victory of the season.
Up 3-1 heading into their second at-bat, the Mounties stretched their advantage to 7-1 as
Alexandria Teeter singled home two and
Kaleigh Roop ripped a double that scored two more. Mount Aloysius added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by a two-RBI double from
Hayley McGowan and two-RBI triple from
Brandie Mott.
Teeter finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored in game one. McGowan and
Taylor Swatsworth added two hits apiece.
Juniata reversed the game one script with two runs apiece in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead in game two. The Eagles added one run in the fourth before scoring seven runs in the top of the fifth to seize control. The Mounties got two runs back in the bottom of the inning as Mott and
Brittany Burris came across the plate, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
Burris, Mott and
Natalie Karpinsky had one hit apiece in game two.
Sam Crilley was handed the loss to drop her record to 7-6 on the season.
The Mounties move to 17-11 on the season and return to the diamond on Saturday with a home AMCC doubleheader against D'Youville scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
