Softball Suffers Two Losses to Behrend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team suffered two losses to host Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon by scores of 1-0 and 9-1 in AMCC action.

Game one featured a pitcher's duel between the Mount's Kelsey Ickes and Behrend's Rachel Miller, two of the top pitchers in the conference. Ickes allowed just five hits, while Miller allowed one hit.

Neither side threatened much offensively in the early going. The Mounties put two runners on base in the top of the fourth on a walk and hit by pitch, but Miller forced a popout and recorded a strikeout to end the threat. Behrend scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the sixth. The Mount's Brandie Mott broke up the no-hitter in the top of the seventh with a single with two outs but was stranded at first base as Behrend took the win.

Game two was tight early as each team put up a run in their first at-bat. Hayley McGowan doubled down the leftfield line to bring in Alexandria Teeter to make it 1-0 before Behrend responded with a run of its own on a solo home run. The Lions broke a close game open with four runs in the fourth inning and ended the game via the mercy rule with four more runs in the fifth inning.

With the losses, the Mounties fall to 17-15 overall and 9-7 in conference play. They will conclude their regular season on Monday with a conference doubleheader against Penn State Altoona set to begin at 3 p.m. on the road. The Mounties, who have already clinched a postseason berth, will most likely begin postseason play as the #5 seed in the conference tournament.
