Altoona, PA - In their regular season finale, the Mount Aloysius softball team was edged by scores of 3-2 and 7-6 by host Penn State Altoona on Monday afternoon in AMCC action.

In game one the Mounties jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run from Hayley McGowan. The game remained 2-0 until the Lions scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie things up at 2-2. Neither team scored in the sixth and the Mounties were also kept off the board in the top of the seventh despite a single from Taylor Swatsworth. In Altoona's home half of the seventh, the Lions put a runner on third with two outs and ended the game on a walkoff single.

Kelsey Ickes pitched a strong 6 and 2/3 innings for Mount Aloysius as she gave up just seven hits and two earned runs. McGowan was 1-for-1 with two walks and Swatsworth reached base three times on a single and two walks.

In game two the Lions were the first to take control as the home side scored six runs in the first four innings to take a 6-0 lead before the Mounties responded. In the top of the fifth, Mount Aloysius scored four runs highlighted by a three-run home run from McGowan and an Ali Reese RBI single to cut the deficit to 6-4. The Mounties evened the game at 6-6 in the sixth after McGowan and Tayler Young scored off of Altoona errors.

Altoona scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead back at 7-6. Mount Aloysius put a runner on second with two outs in the seventh inning, but Swatsworth popped out to end the game.

Alexandria Teeter (3-for-4) and Chelsea Engeholm (2-for-4, double) both scored a run in game two. Sam Crilley was handed the loss after pitching six innings and allowing six earned runs.

With the losses, the Mounties will enter the AMCC Tournament on Friday as the #5 seed and will face #4 La Roche College at D'Youville College. The Mounties split with La Roche earlier this year in a doubleheader that was also played at D'Youville due to postponements. The AMCC Tournament is double elimination. If the Mounties win against La Roche they will play #1 D'Youville later in the afternoon Friday. If they lose their opening game, they will play on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in an elimination game.
