Box Score 2 Cresson, PA - Despite recording 24 hits in a doubleheader against visiting Medaille College, the Mount Aloysius softball team settled for a split with the Mavericks on Thursday afternoon. After winning 6-2 in game one, the Mounties lost 18-5 in game two.
The Mounties got off to a good start in game one as
Hayley McGowan ripped an RBI single to score
Taylor Swatsworth in the bottom of the first. The Mountie lead increased to 3-0 in the third inning courtesy of a two-run home run from
Kaleigh Roop. The lead increased to 6-0 after an RBI double from Swatsworth in the fourth inning and an
Alexandria Teeter triple that brought in two in the bottom of the sixth.
Kelsey Ickes notched the game one victory. She threw a complete game and allowed just seven hits and two earned runs while striking out 11 for the game.
Swatsworth, Teeter, McGowan,
Chelsea Engeholm and
Natalie Karpinsky each registered two hits in the game one victory.
In game two, Mount Aloysius continued to produce offensively as the home side scored five runs in the opening two innings to take a 5-0 advantage.
Chelsea Engeholm slammed a two-run homer in the first inning and capped the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the second.
Medaille battled back and scored two runs in the third inning before scoring four more in the fourth inning to take a 6-5 lead. The Mavericks continued to expand their lead and increased the advantage to 9-5 after six innings before exploding for nine runs in their final at-bat.
McGowan led the Mounties with three hits in game one to finish with five hits for the day. Engeholm finished with three RBI's.
Mount Aloysius now stands at 11-9 overall and 4-2 in the AMCC standings. They return to action on Monday with a conference doubleheader at home against Pitt-Greensburg that is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
