Box Score 2 Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team played with heavy hearts on Monday afternoon following the passing of assistant coach
James Peracchino on Sunday. The Mounties, playing in honor of Coach Peracchino, defeated visiting Pitt-Greensburg by scores of 6-4 and 4-2 in an AMCC doubleheader.
"We lost not only a great coach but a fantastic friend. If you have had the pleasure of knowing Jimbo, you would know that this man would do anything for anybody," Head Coach
Carl Teeter said. "When it comes to helping out softball players, this man was the type of person that would spend hours and hours just to make you better and happy about yourself. God please watch over his wife Lisa, daughter Beth and son Brock. Rest easy my good friend and we will carry you in my hearts forever. Love ya Jimbo."
The Mounties won game one behind a complete-game effort from
Kelsey Ickes, who struck out seven while allowing four runs for the game.
Mount Aloysius was down 2-1 when
Alexandria Teeter struck for an RBI single to score
Ali Reese and tie things up at 2-2. Down 3-2 an inning later, the Mounties opened up the game with four runs highlighted by a
Brittany Burris triple that tied the game at 3-3. Mount Aloysius added three more runs following the Burris triple to take a 6-2 advantage, and Ickes limited Greensburg to one run the rest of the way.
Sam Crilley finished 4-for-4 at the plate with one run scored in game one, and Reese ended the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Brandie Mott contributed two hits, one RBI and one run scored.
In game two, Crilley took the rubber and also was fantastic as she threw a complete game while allowing just six hits and two earned runs. Crilley struck out four Greensburg hitters.
Teeter got the Mounties off to a quick start in game two with a triple in the bottom of the first that scored
Taylor Swatsworth. After Greensburg tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning,
Hayley McGowan drove in two with a double in the fifth, and
Tiffany Helgran followed with an RBI groundout to make it a 4-1 game. Greensburg scored one more run in their final at-bat, but Crilley shut the door to give the Mounties the sweep.
Burris led the Mounties with two hits in game two.
Mount Aloysius improves to 13-9 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. They will return to the field on Wednesday with a doubleheader at La Roche College that is set to begin at 3 p.m.
