Apakoh, Defense Strong in Mountie Loss

Apakoh made 11 saves in the loss
Box Score
Huntington, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team put forth a strong defensive effort against Juniata College before ultimately falling by a final score of 2-0 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon on the road.

Goalkeeper Zara Apakoh made 11 saves in net for the Mounties, including two diving stops off Juniata breakaways to keep the Mount Aloysius in the game throughout. The backline of Kady Bills, Leanne Cardoso-Bastos, Jordan Gebhart and Amanda Schneider also held strong throughout the match.

Down 1-0, the Mounties had a great chance to equalize off of a corner kick in the early stages of the second half as Gebhart got the first touch on the ball, but Harpreet Heer's ensuing shot went just wide. Later in the match, Olivia Woodley received a good feed from Amanda Brancato but her shot from the top of the box was saved by the Juniata keeper.

"I was really proud of the defensive pressure we put on throughout the game. We had two 15-second instances where we shut off, and that can't happen against a good opponent. Other than that we were locked in against a very good Juniata side," Head Coach Matt Davis said.

Mount Aloysius will look to get back into the winning column when they return home for a match against Thiel College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
