Women's Soccer Blanks Thiel

Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team recorded their second shutout of the season and received goals from three different players in a 3-0 victory over visiting Thiel College on Saturday afternoon.

Amanda Brancato, Jordan Gebhart and Olivia Woodley each scored goals for the Mounties. Brancato got the scoring started in the 6th minute when she took a pass from Woodley on the break and beat the keeper with a shot to the far corner. The two teams then battled for scoring chances throughout the half. As the half came to a close, Gebhart bent a corner kick directly into the net to give the Mounties a 2-0 lead and a boost heading into the break.

Mount Aloysius continued to control play in the second half, as Brancato and Kristin James both had quality looks at goal but were unable to convert. After some near misses, Woodley took a well-placed cross from James and buried her sixth goal of the season into the net in the 81st minute of play.

The Mountie defense, led by goalkeeper Zara Apakoh as well as Gebhart and Leanne Cardoso-Bastos, kept Thiel off the board while limiting the Tomcats to six shots.

Apakoh stopped three shots while recording her second win of the season in goal. Brancato led the Mounties on the offensive end with seven total shots and five shots on goal.

The Mounties return to action on Tuesday with a road matchup at Lancaster Bible College. Kickoff is 4:00 p.m.
