Mounties Fall to Barons

Box Score
Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team fell to Franciscan University on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 3-0 in a game that was moved to Penn State Altoona's turf field due to field and weather conditions in Cresson.

Mount Aloysius had a strong game in the run of play, but fell victim to three goals off of Franciscan set pieces. The Barons scored the only goal of the first half off of a header on a corner kick 26:57 into the game.

After some lineup adjustments, the Mounties came out firing to start the second half as the trio of Amanda Brancato, Olivia Woodley and Jordan Gebhart created a number of chances on goal. Brancato got free behind the Baron backline in the half's opening minutes but had her shot stopped by the Franciscan keeper.

Franciscan responded with a goal off of a long free kick in the 63rd minute, and nearly five minutes later made it a 3-0 game on a shot after a deflection following a Baron corner kick attempt.

The Mounties continued to push offensively and had another opportunity when Gebhart slotted a pass to the right side to Kristin James. James fired but her shot deflected off the crossbar and went out of play.

Goalkeeper Zara Apakoh recorded five saves on the day.

Mount Aloysius returns to action on Saturday with a trip to Hilbert College for another AMCC matchup.
