Box Score Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team outshot visiting York College by a final margin of 36-3 on their way to rolling to a 6-0 victory in their season opener on Saturday afternoon.
With just under eight minutes to play,
Kelsey Wilmink got the Mounties off to a quick start as she scored off of a cross from
Jordan Gebhart. At the 18:33 mark,
Olivia Woodley made it 2-0 after scoring on a penalty kick. Mount Aloysius added a third goal as Gebhart broke through the defense and finished a breakaway, and the home side went into halftime with a 4-0 advantage after
Ashley Morchesky scored her first goal after a cross from the right wing from
Tamara George.
Mount Aloysius added two long-distance goals in the second half. Woodley scored from 25 yards out to make it a 5-0 game, and
Kristin James drove in a goal from 20 yards out to close the scoring with just under 20 minutes left to go in the game.
Amanda Brancato contributed two assists to the Mountie attack, while
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos and
Zara Apakoh split the shutout in goal. Each keeper recorded one save in 45 minutes of action.
The Mounties return to the field on Monday with a home match against Geneva College slated to begin at 2 p.m.
