Mounties Win AMCC Round Robin; Capture Regular Season Title


Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's bowling team won the second AMCC Round Robin of the season with an overall record of 7-1 this past weekend as the Mounties edged host Penn State Altoona, who finished 6-2 over the two-day round robin competition at Holiday Bowl. The Mounties finish the AMCC regular season with an overall record of 14-2 to capture the AMCC regular season title.

The Mounties posted a 3-1 record after the traditional round of AMCC competition on Saturday. The Mounties defeated Pitt-Bradford 775-670, New Jersey City 842-591 and Medaille 767-750 while posting their only loss against Altoona by a score of 835-784. High scorer for the Mounties was Rayissa Amon with a 176 average, while Jessica Bello finished with a 166 average and Lucy Craig posted a 157 average.

On day two, the Mounties had four matches of best 4 of 7 competition in baker bowling. The Mounties went undefeated as they defeated Pitt-Bradford 4-0 (771-656 total pins) , New Jersey City 4-0 (675-496), Medaille 4-0 (698-610) and clinched first place with their best performance in a 4-2 (1020-930) win over Altoona.
Top scorer for Sunday's competition was Amon who rolled a 19.1 baker frame average for 36 frames, and the second high scorer for the Mounties was Clara Angeloff with an impressive 18.4 for 36 frames. Jill Vietmeier stepped in for a strong 17.5 average for 16 frames, and Bello rounded out the top scorers with a 16.8 for 36 frames.

"This team gets stronger every event and we are setting our sights on the next competition in Altoona at the Red Flash Invitational January 29th to 31st. We had more fan support than we have ever had from both friends and parents - the cheering from the crowd was instrumental in propelling this team to the regular season victory," Head Coach Barbara Jones said.

The Mounties are now 28-12 overall on the season and will return to action on January 29th for the Red Flash Invitational hosted by St. Francis. The AMCC Bowling Championships will take place on February 6th and 7th in Buffalo, NY.
