Mountie Bowling Finishes in Third at Red Flash Invitational


Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's bowling team had a strong showing at the Red Flash Invitational hosted by St. Francis University this past weekend, as the Mounties finished in third place among 11 teams in competition. 

The Mounties finished day one of the competition with a 1-3 record. Mount Aloysius fought a close match against Kutztown but fell 909-895 before bouncing back in their second match with a 933-906 win over Penn State Altoona. In their third match, the team had a chance to win in the final game but fell to Felician 776-747. The final match of the day was a tough one as the Mounties ended the day with a 810-787 loss to St. Peters University.


Leading the Mounties on day one for the first time was freshman Jessica Bello with a 19.2 average. She was followed by Rayissa Amon who registered a 18.7 average and Beth Longer who finished with a 15.9 average for day one.

The Mounties bounched back on day two with a 5-1 record as Mount Aloysius won its final four matches of the day. The Mounties defeated New Jersey City 789-708 before falling to host St. Francis 1019-835. The Mounties then defeated Thiel 801-761, Pitt-Bradford 911-821, Coppin State 911-619 and Morgan State 907-801 to complete day two. Amon recorded a 189 average for day two in traditional bowling, while Longer registered a 176 average and Lucy Craig had a 172 average.

In Sunday's baker bowling competition, Mount Aloysius defeated Felician 4-3 to set up a semifinal match with Kutztown. The Mounties jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Kutztown before falling by a final of 4-3. Mount Aloysius finished competition in the third-place match by defeating Felician for the second time 4-3 to finish third overall for the competition. 

On Sunday, Amon again paced Mount Aloysius with a 19.5 average, followed by Bello at 18.2 and Clara Angeloff at 17.2.

The Mounties now stand at 36-17 overall and return to the lanes next weekend for the AMCC Championships in Buffalo, NY.
