Mounties Defeated in Close Contest

Youngwood, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team saw its four-game unbeaten streak come to an end as the Mounties fell by a final score of 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon against host Pitt-Greensburg in AMCC action.

The Mounties put on the pressure early in the offensive end as Jordan Gebhart, Olivia Woodley and Katie Mirance each had scoring opportunities in the game's opening minutes. Mount Aloysius would then get on the scoreboard in the 17th minute as Amanda Brancato scored off of a Woodley corner kick to make it 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

The Bobcats responded with strong offensive play of their own and tied the game later in the half in the 34th minute. The two teams went into halftime tied 1-1, before Pitt-Greensburg scored on the first shot of the second half to take a 2-1 lead with over 40 minutes remaining.

Mount Aloysius had four different scoring chances throughout the remainder of the game. Cheyenne Kuncher had the final opportunity for the Mounties with just over a minute to play, but her shot sailed wide as Greensburg held on for the win.

Zara Apakoh registered five saves in net for Mount Aloysius.

The Mounties fall to 10-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play. They will host Pitt-Bradford on Saturday at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, the Mounties will honor their five seniors: Woodley, Apakoh, Kady Bills, Kiera Bills and Kristin James.
