Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team ended their regular season on a high note with a 4-0 victory over AMCC opponent La Roche on Tuesday afternoon in a game played at Penn State Altoona due to poor field conditions on the Mounties home field.
Despite opportunities throughout the first half, the Mounties wouldn't find the back of the net until seven seconds remained in the opening session.
Summer Schell lined up and lasered a free kick into the top corner of the net to give Mount Aloysius a 1-0 advantage at the halftime break.Â
The Mounties used that momentum and scored their second goal four minutes into the second half when
Olivia Woodley sent in a corner kick that whipped in directly for a goal. Just over five minutes later, Woodley made it a 3-0 game with a strike from distance that beat the La Roche keeper. Mount Aloysius capped its scoring in the 65th minute after
Jordan Gebhart slotted in a goal on a breakaway.Â
Goalkeeper
Zara Apakoh stopped five shuts while registering her fourth shutout of the season.Â
With the victory, the Mounties earn the #4 seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament and will host #5 seed Hilbert on Saturday. The playoff game marks the Mounties first postseason appearance in program history.Â
