Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team registered a 2-0 shutout victory over host D'Youville College on Saturday afternoon in AMCC competition.
Jordan Gebhart got the Mounties off to a great start. On the first shot of the game, Gebhart made a run across the box and headed in a cross from
Olivia Woodley to give Mount Aloysius a 1-0 advantage 5:25 into the game. Seven minutes later, Gebhart hit a strike from distance that sailed just high above the bar. Ther Mounties continued to take advantage of their chances as
Amanda Brancato made it a 2-0 game just under 16 minutes in after she struck for a goal after picking up a loose ball in the box. After Brancato's goal, the Mountie defense held the Spartans to one shot over the remainder of the half.
The Spartans came out in attack mode to start the second half, but Mountie keeper
Zara Apakoh and the backline were up to the task of keeping D'Youville off the board. Apakoh made five of her six saves in the second half as the Mounties secured the win.
Gebhart and
Sam Torrenti led the Mounties in the attack with two shots each.
Mount Aloysius improves to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in conference action. The Mounties are next in action on Tuesday at Franciscan with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
