Mounties Historic Season Ends in AMCC Semifinals

Box Score
Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team saw its record-setting season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to #1 seed Penn State Behrend in the AMCC semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

The host Lions scored two goals in the game's first 10 minutes to establish control. The Mounties turned it around and showed improved play throughout the middle portion of the first half, but Behrend added a third goal with less than two minutes before halftime on a penalty kick to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Behrend scored their fourth and final goal a minute and a half into the second session. Mount Aloysius had a strong opportunity to score six minutes later when Katie Mirance got behind the defense on a through ball, but her shot went wide. In the closing moments of the game the Mounties created another scoring chance when Jordan Gebhart made a long run through the middle and beat two defenders off the dribble. However, her ensuing cross across the box was deflected out of bounds off of a Behrend defender.

Olivia Woodley led the Mounties offensively with five shots on the day. Goalkeeper Zara Apakoh made nine saves in 81 minutes of action before Leanne Cardoso-Bastos finished the game in net.

Mount Aloysius concludes its season with a  program-record 12 wins. The Mounties earned their first ever AMCC playoff berth and won their first playoff game with a 3-2 victory over Hilbert last Saturday. The Mounties will say goodbye to a senior class of Woodley, Apakoh, Kiera Bills, Kady Bills and Kristin James.
