Mountie Bowling Rolls at Virginia Union Invitational


Richmond, VA - The Mount Aloysius women's bowling team took part in the Virginia Union Invitational over the weekend and ended the competition with an overall record of 10 wins and four losses. The Mounties finished the competition in third place overall.

Day one was in the baker format and the Mounties recorded a 5-1 record for the day as they defeated Bowie State, Coppin State, Virginia Union, Duquesne and Chowan. The Mounties only loss was to St. Francis Brooklyn. High baker average was Rayissa Amon with a 20.0 followed by Jessica Bello with 16.5 and Lucy Craig with a 16.3.

Saturday consisted of five traditional matches with the Mounties tallying up a 4-1 record defeating Salem University, Virginia State, St. Peters and New Jersey City. Their only loss was to Felician. High games were rolled by Amon (233, 212), Craig (223), Paetyn Klinger (217) and Bello (210). High average was posted by Amon with a 194, which earned her a place on the All-Tournament Team. Klinger had a breakthrough weekend with a 186 average and Craig rounded out the top 3 with a 182 average.

Sunday began with the Mounties taking on undefeated Norfolk State for five baker games. Mount Aloysius led the match through four games but ultimately fell to their opponents by a final score of 930-900. The second match was against St. Francis Brooklyn and, and though the Mounties bowled very well they could not take down the Terriers who ultimately went on to win the tournament. The final match was against Virginia State University. The Mounties posted a 4-1 record against VSU in the baker games to win the match. Top baker scorer for the day was Klinger with a 20.6.  Amon posted a 19.9 with Jill Vietmeier rolling a 17.8. Casey Schaffer and Beth Longer each had a 17.1.

The Mounties return to action next weekend for the first AMCC event of the season hosted by New Jersey City University.
