Ebensburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team opened their season with a strong weekend as the Mounties recorded non-conference victories over Waynesburg and Lancaster Bible to start the season off with a 2-0 record.
The Mounties defeated Waynesburg by a final score of 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Matt Hample and
Nick Goldyn won a thriller at #1 doubles by a score of 9-8, and the Mounties led 2-1 after the three matches of doubles play.
Aubrey Brown won at #4 singles by a score of 7-5, 6-1 to give the Mounties their third win of the day. Waynesburg, due to only having four eligible players, had to forfeit the #5 and #6 singles matches which handed Mount Aloysius the 5-4 win.
On Sunday, the Mounties were dominant in a 8-1 victory over Lancaster Bible. Hample and Goldyn won 8-3 in #1 doubles and
Justin Fleegle and
Nick Centar followed with a 8-2 victory at #2 doubles.
Kevin Ouellette and
Jalen Terry were then victorious 8-1 at #3 doubles to give Mount Aloysius a 3-0 lead. Hample won 6-3, 6-2 at #1 singles and Centar clinched the match with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles. Fleegle, Brown and
Dylan Matta also recorded victories in singles competition.
The Mounties return to the courts on Friday with a 6 p.m. match at Geneva.
