McMurray, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches over the last two days as the Mounties defeated Geneva 7-2 on Friday evening before falling 7-2 to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday evening.
In the win over Geneva, the Mounties fell behind 1-0 after #1 doubles but responded with two victories as the pairs of
Nick Centar and
Justin Fleegle as well as
Kevin Ouellette and
Jalen Terry registered wins in doubles play. Centar then won 6-2, 6-1 at #2 singles to give the Mounties a 3-2 lead in the match, and Fleegle followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #3 singles.
Nick Goldyn clinched the victory for the Mounties with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #4 singles.
Aubrey Brown and
Dylan Matta also recorded wins at #5 and #6 singles for Mount Aloysius.
The Mounties had a tough time against a strong W&J side on Saturday as the host Presidents won the first five matches en route to the victory. Goldyn and Brown were able to notch individual wins at #4 and #5 singles as Goldyn won a 10-6 tiebreaker and Brown won 6-3, 6-0 in his match.Â
The Mounties are now 3-1 on the season. They will return to action on March 18th with their AMCC opener on the road at Pitt-Bradford at 6 p.m.Â
