The Mounties captured their first AMCC Bowling Championship this weekend

Kenmore, NY - The Mount Aloysius women's bowling team went 7-1 in competition over the weekend at the AMCC Bowling Championships to capture their first championship in program history. The Mounties knocked down a total pinfall of 7,131 pins, surpassing second-place Penn State Altoona by a wide margin of 822 pins.

Mount Aloysius left little doubt after day one as the Mounties separated themselves on top of the leaderboard. Led by freshmen Rayissa Amon (199 average), Jessica Bello (185 average) and Clara Angeloff (181 average) in the total pinfall event, the Mounties led by 468 pins over Medaille and 498 pins over Pitt-Bradford after day one of competition and also went 4-0 overall as a team.

The Mounties continued their strong play on Sunday in baker bowling as the Mounties defeated New Jersey City 807-653, Penn State Altoona 983-782 and Pitt-Bradford 957-779 to clinch the championship with one match remaining. Mount Aloysius suffered its only loss in the final match while falling to Medaille 782-760. The trio of freshmen Amon, Vietmeier and Bello once again led the way. Amon bowled to a high average of 19.9, while Vietmeier and Bello each averaged a 17.8 for the day.

For their outstanding play, Amon and Bello were named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team following the championship. Amon bowled to a conference-leading 199 average including the highest individual game with a 243 on Saturday. Bello rolled to a 185 average to finish in third in the traditional bowling format among all individual bowlers.

The Mounties bowled a 178.3 average per game, and Penn State Altoona came in second place with a 157.7 average.

"I am so proud of this team and I am very grateful that these ladies have made Mount Aloysius College their home. I am also grateful that I have been selected to coach this team," Head Coach Barbara Jones said. "With six freshmen, one sophomore and two juniors, this team is only going to get stronger. We practice very efficiently and our scores are clear indicators that we are doing the right thing. I also want to send a special thank you to the friends and family of Mountie bowling for their support of the players and coaches."

The Mounties now have an overall record of 43-18 and will return to the lanes on February 12th for their final event of the season at the Golden Bear Classic.
