Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team was busy in competition over the weekend, as the Mounties took on Waynesburg at home on Friday followed by another doubleheader at Juniata on Saturday.

The Mounties defeated Waynesburg 2-1 in game one before the Yellow Jackets came back with a 11-3 win in game two.

Morgan Rackish was fantastic pitching in game one as the freshman threw a complete game and allowed only four hits and one run while striking out six. Mount Aloysius was down 1-0 heading into the sixth inning. Hannah Simpson tripled to start the at-bat, and Leanne Cardoso-Bastos followed with a single that brought in Simpson to tie the game at 1-1. The game remained tied heading into the Mounties final at-bat. Kate Little and Bridgit Yothers each singled to put two runners on base with two outs, and Simpson came up clutch with a walkoff RBI single that scored Little to hand the Mounties the victory.

The Yellow Jackets responded with the first seven runs of game two on their way to the win. In game two, Taylor Swatsworth and Hayley McGowan each recorded two hits for the Mounties. Stevi Confer was handed the loss on the rubber.

Mount Aloysius returned to the field Saturday against the Eagles of Juniata. The host Eagles dominated game one with a 8-0 victory in which the Mounties were limited to one hit. However, the visiting Mounties bounced back with a 7-2 victory in game two.

In the game two win, the teams were tied 1-1 when Yothers hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give Mount Aloysius a 4-1 advantage. The Mounties added three runs in their next at-bats to provide some cushion for Confer. Confer threw a complete game and allowed seven hits and two earned runs in the win.

The Mounties now sit at at 7-11 overall and will have some time off before taking the field on March 28th with a non-conference doubleheader at Geneva with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
