Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team got off to a strong start to AMCC play with a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Franciscan University Barons on Wednesday afternoon. The Mounties won by scores of 9-0 and 10-2 while receiving contributions throughout the lineup.

In game one, the Mounties scored twice in their opening at-bat. The big hit was provided by Chelsea Engeholm, who notched a single that scored two. In the second inning Mount Aloysius added six runs highlighted by back-to-back triples from Leanne Cardoso-Bastos and Alexandria Teeter as well as an Engeholm RBI double and Hayley McGowan RBI single. Mount Aloysius capped its scoring in the third inning when Kate Little registered an RBI with a sacrifice fly that scored Bridgit Yothers to make it 9-0 in favor of the home side.

Morgan Rackish then kept the Barons off the board with a five-inning complete game in which she allowed just two hits and struck out eight Franciscan hitters.

Mount Aloysius also jumped on the board early in game two with seven runs in the first two innings of play. A Karly Klein RBI double highlighted the first at-bat, and Taylor Swatsworth (double) and McGowan (single) each recorded two RBIs on hits in the second inning. Stevi Confer and Yothers limited the Barons to six hits in game two.
