Men's Tennis Edges UPG, Clinches Playoff Berth


Ebensburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team defeated Pitt-Greensburg by a final score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at home in the AMCC regular season finale for both teams. The Mounties clinched a playoff berth and secured the #3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, where Mount Aloysius will face off against #2 seed Penn State Behrend on Saturday at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie. The playoff berth is the first in the six-year history of the men's tennis program at Mount Aloysius.

Pitt-Greensburg will match up against #1 seed Franciscan at 3:30 at the same site, with the Behrend-Mount Aloysius match following. The two winners will square off in the AMCC Championship match on Sunday.

The Mounties won two of the three doubles matches to start the competition against Pitt-Greensburg. Nick Centar and Justin Fleegle won 8-5 at #2 doubles before Aubrey Brown and Jalen Terry secured a 8-4 victory at #3 doubles.

The two teams went back-and-forth in singles play with the Mounties winning at #3 singles (Fleegle) as well as #5 singles (Brown) and #6 singles (Dylan Matta) to register the victory.

The Mounties will host Lycoming College on Thursday at 5 p.m. in non-conference action prior to their playoff matchup on Saturday.
