Mountie Softball Falls on the Road

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Greensburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to host Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday afternoon, as the Mounties lost game one 7-5 in heartbreaking fashion and were defeated by a final score of 10-2 in the day's second game.

The Mounties jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one as Chelsea Engeholm drove in two with a double to right center field that scored Kaleigh Roop and Leanne Cardoso-Bastos. The Bobcats responded with three runs in their second at-bat, and the two teams were tied 3-3 after four innings of play after Kate Little knocked an RBI single for Mount Aloysius.

Engeholm then came up huge in the fifth inning with a two-run home run to give the visiting Mounties a 5-3 advantage. Mount Aloysius would hold that lead until the final at-bat of the game for Pitt Greensburg. With two outs, the Bobcats rallied for four runs. After a Mountie error, Pitt-Greensburg notched three hits in a row as they ended the game on a walkoff two-run home run.

Engehom went 3-for-4 with four RBI's and two runs scored in the game one defeat, and Roop scored two runs.

In game two, the Bobcats jumped all over the Mounties with seven runs in their first three at-bats to seize a 7-1 lead. Mount Aloysius scored its lone run in the third inning on a Taylor Swatsworth single that brought home Cardoso-Bastos. Mount Aloysius cut the gap to 7-2 in the fifth inning courtesy of a Karly Klein RBI double, but Pitt-Greensburg responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to win via the mercy rule.

Alexandria Teeter recorded a 3-for-3 showing at the plate in game two, while Cardoso-Bastos and Klein registered two hits apiece.

The Mounties fall to 11-14 overall and 2-2 in conference play. They will return to the diamond on Saturday at Medaille with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
