Bradford, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team scored 20 runs on 25 hits in a two-game sweep of AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Mounties won by final scores of 11-1 and 9-1.
Taylor Swatsworth led the Mounties offensively in game one with a 4-for-5 showing at the plate with five RBI's and three runs scored. Swatsworth hit an RBI single to get Mount Aloysius on the board in the first inning and a slugged a two-run home run in the seventh to conclude the game's scoring. On the rubber,
Morgan Rackish threw a complete-game while allowing just five Panther hits.
Following Swatsworth's single,
Karly Klein hit an RBI double two batters later to make it 2-0. Swatsworth then doubled in two more in the second inning, and
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos hit a single up the middle to score
Bridgit Yothers in the fourth to increase the Mountie lead to 5-0. A Yothers single in the fifth scored
Kate Little to make it 6-0 before Pitt-Bradford got on the scoreboard with a single run in the bottom of the fifth.
Mount Aloysius added two runs apiece in their final two-at bats, and Rackish closed the game by retiring the side in the bottom of the seventh.
Cardoso-Bastos, Yothers and
Alexandria Teeter each recorded three hits in game one, and Yothers scored three runs while Cardoso-Bastos and Teeter each scored twice.
A 1-0 Mountie lead in game two increased to 6-0 in the top of the third inning highlighted by a Yothers single that brought in two after
Kaleigh Roop was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Klein and
Hayley McGowan each drew bases loaded walks.
The Mounties again loaded the bases in the top of the fourth. Roop was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game to bring in a run, and Klein recorded an RBI on a groundout that made it 8-0 in favor of the visitors. The Panthers scored a run in the fourth inning to prevent the mercy rule, until a Klein RBI single brought the lead back to 9-1 in the top of the sixth inning.
Hannah Simpson then ended the game via the mercy rule with a scoreless sixth inning.
Simpson threw all six innings in game two and allowed three hits. Teeter led the way at the plate with two hits.
Mount Aloysius improves to to 9-3 in conference play and 18-15 overall heading into another AMCC doubleheader tomorrow as the Mounties host Penn State Behrend with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
