Mounties Defeat Spartans for Conference Win


Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team earned a critical conference victory in their quest for an AMCC playoff spot with a 7-2 win over D'Youville on Friday evening on the road.

After Matt Hample and Nick Goldyn dropped a close 8-6 decision at #1 doubles, Nick Centar and Justin Fleegle registered a 8-2 victory at #2 doubles. Aubrey Brown and Dylan Matta then teamed up for a 8-1 win at #3 doubles to give the Mounties a 2-1 lead.

Mount Aloysius then took five of the six singles matches against the Spartans. Centar won 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles followed by a 6-3, 6-2 victory for Fleegle at #3 singles. The Mounties continued to roll as Goldyn took a 6-1, 6-3 decision before Brown recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Jalen Terry closed out the streak with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #6 singles as the Mounties improved to 5-5 overall.

The Mounties are now 2-3 in conference play and will compete in their conference regular season finale against Pitt-Greensburg at the Ebensburg Tennis Center on Sunday at 1 p.m. Mount Aloysius would clinch a playoff berth with a win and a Penn State Altoona loss to Penn State Behrend in a match taking place tomorrow.
