Cresson, PA - Despite goals from
Jordan Gebhart and
Amanda Brancato, the Mount Aloysius women's soccer team was defeated by a final score of 5-2 by the visiting Lycoming College Warriors on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
After controlling play during the opening moments of the game, the Mounties fell victim to a Warriors counterattack which resulted in the game's first goal. Lycoming pushed the advantage to 2-0 in the 14th minute of play. The Mounties responded quickly, however, as Gebhart found the end of a
Katie Mirance cross and redirected in a shot to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Warriors regained their two-goal advantage within the next five minutes after scoring off of a loose ball following a corner kick attempt. Lycoming went into the halftime break leading the Mounties 3-1. In the second half of play, the Warriors scored two goals less than four minutes apart to break open the game. Mount Aloysius got a goal back in the 83rd minute when Brancato scored her fourth goal of the season off of a feed from Mirance. Mirance's assists were her team-leading third and fourth assists of the season.
The Warriors outshot the Mounties 15-12, and Mount Aloysius held a 5-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Offensively, Gebhart and Brancato led the way with four shots apiece.
Mount Aloysius returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Thiel at 1 p.m. for another non-conference match.
