Women's Soccer Falls in Close Contest to Bearcats

Box Score
Cresson, PA - Despite creating a number of potential game-tying chances in the game's final moments, the Mount Aloysius women's soccer team was defeated in their home opener by a final score of 2-1 by Saint Vincent on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Mounties were called for a foul in the box with 17 minutes remaining in the game, and the visiting Bearcats converted the penalty kick to take a 2-1 advantage. Mount Aloysius had multiple scoring opportunities down the stretch, including an Olivia Woodley shot that rang off the crossbar, but couldn't find the equalizer.

The game got off to a quick start for Mount Aloysius as Amanda Brancato scored the game's opening goal at the 16:30 mark on a pass from Katie Mirance. Just over 20 minutes into the half, the game was delayed for 30 minutes due to thunderstorms in the area. When play resumed, the Bearcats took control and tied the game with 23 minutes remaining before halftime on a shot from the top of the box. The two sides would remain even heading into the break.

Mount Aloysius outshot St. Vincent 12-10 and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Woodley and Brancato led the team offensively with three shots apiece. In net, goalkeeper Zara Apakoh recorded five saves for the game.

The Mounties will return to the field on Friday for a 4 p.m. home contest against Hood College.
