Women's Soccer Falls on Late Penalty Kick

Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team fell on a late penalty kick goal by a final score of 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon in AMCC action against visiting Franciscan University.

Neither team found any hold on the game in the first half as the Mounties outshot the Barons by a 6-5 margin. In the opening stages of the second half, the Mounties started to establish control and had a few scoring opportunities off the foot of Cheyenne Kuncher. Midway through the half, Katie Mirance had the home team's best chance of the game when she got behind the Baron defense. However, her shot sailed just high over the crossbar and the game remained scoreless. Minutes later, Jordan Gebhart had a header off of a corner kick cleared off the line by a Baron defender.

The Barons found the only goal of the game with 5:36 remaining when a handball at the edge of the Mountie box resulted in a penalty kick opportunity.

The two sides were equal throughout the game with 13 shots apiece, while the Mounties had a 7-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Leanne Cardoso-Bastos made six saves in goal for Mount Aloysius, while Mirance led the attack with four shots for the game.

The Mounties return to the field on Saturday with an away game at Hilbert College.
