Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Pitt-Greensburg by a final score of 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in AMCC action. With the win, the Mounties clinch a berth in the upcoming AMCC playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Despite outshooting the visiting Bobcats by a 6-3 margin in the opening half, the Mounties were down a goal at the break after Pitt-Greensburg scored on a counterattack with just under six minutes remaining in the opening half. Mount Aloysius responded to start the second half as the Mounties scored a minute and a half into the session when
Brianna Byler took the ball off of a Bobcat defender and found
Jordan Gebhart in the box, who settled and struck for her seventh goal of the season. The Mounties continued to pressure and found the game-winning goal 20 minutes later when
Katie Mirance dribbled across the box before firing a shot that gave Mount Aloysius the lead.
The Bobcats recorded four shots over the remainder of the contest, but goalkeeper
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos and the Mountie backline kept Greensburg off the board to seal the victory.
Mount Aloysius held a 20-9 advantage in shots and 9-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities for the game.
The Mounties are now 10-5-1 overall and 5-2 in conference play and will travel to face Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon.
