Leanne Cardoso-Bastos made a season-high 14 saves and
Jordan Gebhart scored the only goal of the game as the Mount Aloysius women's soccer team defeated host La Roche College by a 1-0 margin on Tuessday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams.
With a sluggish start to the game for the Mounties, Cardoso-Bastos kept her team in the contest with eight first-half saves, including a tip save over the crossbar on a La Roche shot from the top of the box.
After entering halftime 0-0, Mount Aloysius found some opportunities on the offensive end in the second half including shots from
Cheyenne Kuncher,
Amanda Brancato and
Summer Schell that were saved by the Redhawk keeper. With just over 20 minutes remaining in the contest, Mountie midfielder
Brianna Byler sent in a cross to the near post that Gebhart headed into the back of the net to hand the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Mounties withstood eight shots from La Roche in the final 15 minutes, with three saves from Cardoso-Bastos as the junior keeper recorded her ninth shutout of the season.
The Mounties conclude the regular season with an overall record of 12-5-1 and 7-2 conference record. Mount Aloysius has earned the #2 seed and a first-round playoff bye and will host the winner of #3 Franciscan vs. #6 Pitt-Greesnburg next Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Cresson.
