Mounties Record Runner-Up Finish at AMCC Championships


Johnstown, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's bowling team finished as the runners-up at the AMCC Championships over the weekend while recording a 7-3 overall record. 

The Mounties, who earned the AMCC regular season championship three weeks ago for the second consecutive season, were edged out by Medaille for the postseason championship. The Mavericks finished the weekend 9-1 overall, including a one-pin victory over the Mounties on Saturday. 

The Mounties finished day one of the AMCC championship in a tie for first place with Medaille with a 4-1 record posting wins against New Jersey City 870-771, Pitt-Bradford 973-800; Penn State Altoona 858-660 and Thiel 806-552. The only loss of the day was a hard fought battle in match one against Medaille where the Mounties lost by a single pin 893-892.

Top bowler on day one for the Mounties was Beth Longer with a 196 average. Jessica Bello averaged a 186 and Casey Schaffer recorded a 174 average.

On day two in baker bowling, the Mounties lost match one to a red hot Medaille team 780-748. The team rallied in match two to defeat New Jersy City 848-761. Match three resulted in an additional loss to Pitt-Bradford by a close margin of 840-837. The team tallied up wins against Penn State Altoona 886-679 and Thiel 962-549 to close the day. The Mounties led the tournament in total pinfall in both traditional and baker play.

Top baker average went to Rayissa Amon with a 18.1, followed by Jill Vietmeier with a 17.0 and Schaffer with a 16.3.

Longer and Rayissa Amon were named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the championships on Sunday.

The Mounties now have an overall record of 44-18 and will return to the lanes next weekend at the James Brown Invitational.
