Cresson, PA - Led by strong pitching performances from
Morgan Rackish and
Hannah Ruby, the Mount Aloysius softball team went 3-1 this week with a doubleheader sweep of Juniata on Wednesday at home followed by a split with Grove City on the road on Saturday.
On Wednesday, the Mounties defeated the Eagles 3-2 and 4-2 as Ruby and Rackish each put forth solid performances on the rubber. In game one. Ruby threw a complete game allowing only seven hits and two earned runs in the victory. Rackish followed with a complete game of her own as she allowed eight hits over her seven-inning performance.Â
In game one against Juniata, the two sides were tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth when
Kateryna Bittner doubled home
Leanne Cardoso-Bastos to give Mount Aloysius a 2-1 advantage. The Eagles tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth and the teams remained tied heading into the Mounties final at-bat. Mount Aloysius loaded the bases with two outs, then
Hannah Simpson drew a walk to force in a run to cap the Mount's 3-2 victory.Â
In game two, Bittner got the Mounties on the board in the second inning with a single that drove in
Kate Little. Juniata responded to tie the game at 1-1, but the Mounties scored once in the third and added two more in the fourth inning courtesy of a triple from
Alexandria Teeter that drove in two runs to make it 4-1. Juniata scored once in the fifth inning, but Rackish closed out the victory.
On Saturday, the Mounties lost game one 4-0 to Grove City as the visitors could only register three hits. The home team scored all four runs of the game in the second inning.
Nina Shatzer threw three scoreless innings in relief for Mount Aloysius.
In game two, the Mounties bounced back to register a 2-1 victory as Ruby was dominant once again with a complete-game performance.
Caroline Showalter got Mount Aloysius on the board with a double in the second inning that brought in
Morgan Sheeder, and Ruby provided offense with a single up the middle that scored Teeter in the top of the fifth inning to give the Mounties the lead.
The Mounties are now 8-6 on the season and will return to action Thursday with a trip to Waynesburg for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.Â
