Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius softball team was defeated in a pair of one-run games by scores of 3-2 and 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon against visiting Penn State Altoona in conference action on the Mounties home field.

The Lions edged the Mounties in a 10-inning contest in game one. Mount Aloysius jumped out to a 2-0 advantage when Alexandria Teeter clubbed a triple in the bottom of the third that drove in Kendra Donelson before Teeter advanced home on an error. The Mountie lead was cut in half in the fifth and Altoona tied the ballgame in their final chance in the seventh inning. The Mounties got a base runner in the bottom of the seventh when Leanne Cardoso-Bastos drew a walk, but weren't able to score as the game advanced to extra innings.

Neither side scored in the eighth or ninth innings, and in the 10th a runner was placed on second base at the start of each at-bat. The Lions were able to register a run in the visiting half, and the Mounties put runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the inning. However, Donelson grounded out and Courtney Link flied out to end the ballgame.

In game two, the teams were tied 1-1 before the Mounties put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth capped by a Link RBI single that gave the home side a 4-1 lead. The lead held until the top of the sixth when Altoona notched four runs to take a 5-4 advantage. Mount Aloysius put three runners on base over their final two at-bats but the Mounties weren't able to tie the game.

Caroline Showalter went 4-for-4 at the plate in game two to lead the Mounties offensively.

Mount Aloysius falls to 12-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play. They will return to the field Saturday with a trip to Penn State Behrend for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
